Putting the "intelligence" into mob AI
I was actually thinking about this:
Currently we have quite some issues regarding farming and bots, as well as people finding PvE repetitive and boring (because face it, the mobs are all static and very boring), plus zones are just filled with mobs that while individually are no hard to take out, but collectively can be quite a strain on most Pve players.
Since there are plenty of PvP instances going on at any one time be it in HoH or in the GvG arenas, why not derive a system that'd be smart enough to just outright distill the essence of these players builds, so as to speak, and plonk them right into mob skill sets? Likewise also, reduce the number of mobs in zones in favor of these more intelligent and diverse mobs.
The benefits of this would be multifold.
1) PvE noobs actually get quite decent experience of the builds used in PvP for one thing
2) Diversity. Now how funny would it be if all of a sudden you encounter an IWAY mob when out questing?
3) Cya to cookie cutter party builds, sorry, but that 2 monk, 2 ele, 1 MM, 2 WaMo party composition is not assured to cut it through 100% of the content anymore, you may actually need to *gasp* invite a mesmer in!
4) Farming. If the mobs can laugh they'd probably do just that as your 55 monk dies in like 2 seconds.

Actually, I've seen some pretty rude mobs out there. The Fragility Mantis mobs in Echovald Forest comes to mind.
Anet seems to balance monsters around being a higher level than you, hitting you when you don't expect it, and sometimes having nasty stuff they spam. (Elementalist Monsters are the prime suspect) If they were to tinker with monsters to have actual PvP builds, they would have to do so in new areas or change the layout of an explorable area.

Although I like this idea... It seems that there would be no difference between the battling of PvP and battling of PvE. I personally (not able to state so for everyone) enjoy killing waves and waves of not so smart melee mobs with my nuker or ss spammer. If I want a challange I go to the PvP section.

But I think that by making the AI level higher and making them do a ridiculous 300+ damage spike is a really lazy way to make them 'challenging'.
Anet should try to at least make some improvements to the AI rather than simply making them do more damage.
What next? Chapter 3 monsters do 500+ damage? Now that's going to be retarded....

Well, AI in video games is a misnomer. There's only so much Anet can do with the scripting to make it react more intelligently. Unfortunately, that means we're probably going to have to endure Anet using cheap tricks to make the game more difficult.

I still won't, I'm waiting for the update today for skills and if they buff mesmers, just maybe I will invite a mesmer.
